The Moment You've All Been Waiting For

$1,000 to the Mario Lemieux Foundation!!!!

Yes, my friends, I officially have $1,000 in hand so that a check can finally be sent to the MLF!

Sidney Penguin, Marc Andre Penguin and Mario Penguin with the check

Mario is ready to wing-deliver the check!

Honestly, when this project first started, I hoped I could send $100 or maybe even $500 to the foundation. I never dared to dream that I would be writing $1,000 on there! But you guys enthusiastically showed up and made this a reality. I may stitch these little guys together and get them where they need to go, but this is YOUR money heading to Pittsburgh and you should all give yourselves a huge pat on the back!!

The boys take in one more game before heading north

So the plan is to mail the check along with these three penguins and a letter tomorrow. I wanted the MLF to see in person what this was all about. The letter includes this web site along with The Sidney Crosby Show.....hopefully they will check it out and see all the roaming the Roamers do! This is also why it's taken me so long to make this announcement....Jodie and I wanted everything to be up and running so they could see as many of the pictures as possible.

The Original Sidney Penguin says goodbye to his friends and wishes them safe travels

I really cannot thank you all enough for everything you have contributed to this. When I first went to Jodie with the idea, I asked "do you think anyone would even want one??" And seeing how you all have embraced the "roaming" idea and taken them places and gotten their pictures absolutely brings tears to my eyes (and makes laugh, quite literally, out loud!). You guys are so creative!! I love every picture.....from them helping you study to seeing them in the hands of a real live Penguin....they just blow me away. Your patience astounds me...that you would wait MONTHS for one of these little guys is just awesome. My only regret is that I can't finish them any faster!

And, of course, my biggest THANK YOU goes to Jodie! When I presented this to her, she embraced it and gave it a home. She allowed this project to take on a life of it's own on her blog. She took the time to create posts and organize pictures, all in the middle of hockey season and her transition from one job to the next. And then helping me set up this site! This project is truly a two-woman job and this announcement would not have ever been possible without her. Cheers, Jodie! We make an AMAZING team!!

So where do we go from here? Well, orders keep coming in and we are on our way to another check to the MLF :) I've always said, I will continue making these little guys as long as people want them. Jodie and I are cooking up another idea....so stayed tuned for that! (I know....more waiting!). I still have many e-mails of Roamers yet to post, so things won't slow down around here anytime soon. And I hope they never do!

And, so, on that note, I give you the classic Roamer photo:

Sid, Flower, and Super Mario are ready to ROAM!!

  8. AWESOME!!!!!!!! I know. I will never forget the day when I saw those little guys for the first time. I was one of the first orders! It's amazing how much such a small group of people can accomplish. One person using their talent to make us happy and in turn making tons of kids happy! It's truly amazing. I am still planning on continuing ordering Roamers so don't think I'm done! LOL!!! But, please don't worry about how long it takes you. Ok? Lol! We understand that you too have a life and it is AMAZING how much you have done so far in such a short amount of time and the sacrifice you put forth. So no worries on the time.:)

  16. Does sending 3 roamers constitute a roaming penguin hat trick? If so hats off to you! My little roamer is sitting right next to me and I'm sure that if he could smile he'd be grinning from ear to ear! (I guess if he had ears as well :) ) but much continued success!

  22. Ditto what everyone else said. :) You are AMAZING, Steph, for being so dedicated to your readers, your Friends, and to the Roamers and their cause to the MLF. I think that we're all very grateful -we're definitely very lucky- to have these unique gifts created by you to celebrate the Pens.

I'm SO excited that you're sending along the trio of Roamers to the MLF so that they can be introduced. :) I can't wait to hear what the folks at the MLF think of the yarn boys!

What a wonderful start and journey the Roaming Penguins endeavor has had so far. They really have come very far since debuting just this past summer! I do have a feeling that they could be big someday... :)

    CONGRATULATIONS, STEPH!! Thank you, Jodie!

  24. This is absolutely wonderful news! I love my little sid and he's traveled with me since I adopted him. I've never sent any pictures in, but I will right that wrong very soon. Congratulations to all your hard work you 2! We got the best of both worlds; a chance to help the foundation while receiving such a unique sidekick....all because of your hard work Stephanie and your generous help Jodie. Thank you both.

  29. Oh, and I forgot to add, Petr and Max will make their first trip outside of Pittsburgh, and hopefully won't get stolen this time, in May. So there will be photos coming in about 8 weeks!

  30. Stephanie -- This is so awesome! You've done such a great job making these little penguins, and I'm sure it's great to know that what you've done will have such an impact. I always smile when I see Brooks Orpik Penguin sitting by my computer --

  31. Ooo! I love the Madagascar penguins!Lol! My mom came up to me yesterday and since we have been meaning to put a border in my room she said,"Since your room is so plain, what do you think of a penguins border?" lol! Sorry, random thought.

  32. Wow. What can I say that hasn't already been said? Simply stunning, not just for Jodie and Steph for creating the Roaming Penguins idea, but to all of the Friends for supporting it, and, in turn, the Mario Lemieux Foundation.

Seriously, what other fanbaise in hockey willingly gives so much back to thier team? Thank-you, everyone for being awesome!

    [We love you, Mario]

  36. Awwwww! You guys are making me cry!

Ok, so, the messenger penguins went out with check-in-wing today. I felt a little misty as the postman carried them away. So in about 2-3 days they will arrive at the Foundation! So much fun!!

And now I have to get busy....more orders to fill! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm SO excited, Steph! Please keep us informed about the travels of the messenger penguins. :)

  38. Congratulations Stephanie! That is awesome especially since it is for such a great cause.

  39. Stephanie (with help from Jodie) - As they often say, even the "small" $1 and $5 and $10 donations can make huge differences, and you guys have given so much more than money to a lot of people. Susan and I have a Sid and Max sitting up by our TV and have fun talking to others about them. The money to Mario's Foundation is just a small part of the gifts you have given. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Yes - I posted the same comment on Jodie's Blog, but I wanted to be sure I said thank you to you both.
