How to Order a Roaming Penguin (currently not taking new orders)

(I am currently not accepting new orders and am taking a little Penguin vacay! Please stay posted to the blog as I will let you guys know when I'm ready to start up again!!)

The penguin stands about 7” tall and is about 4” wide. Each penguin will have his number on his back and on his non-stick wing. Captains and Alternates will have the “C” and “A” on the front. All penguins (except Fleury) have a puck attached to their stick. Marc Andre Fleury penguins have wider sticks and a catching glove (with puck in it)! You can order any player/number you want...there are no limits. You may also order "generic" penguins....penguins with no numbers or even without hockey gear. There are no limits to the number of penguins you can order. Though I must add that if you order a penguin and then decide later to add more, I am unable to include them in your original order (this would unfairly "bump" people that ordered in between). Thanks for understanding....

The penguins are $15 each. $8 from each penguin will go to the Mario Lemieux Foundation. The other $7 goes towards supplies and labor. I will not be financing a trip to Europe on my profits (or to the other side of Nashville, for that matter)! Shipping is extra and will be figured on a case-by-case basis. Rest assured, I ship these guys as cheaply as possible! Orders of penguins with 3 or more are shipped Priority Mail. I am using Paypal for payments, however, if you are wary about sending money over the internet, please let me know so we can make other arrangements.
Please understand that I have a real job, somewhat of a life, and another self-commitment to charity knitting that I do. I do my best to knock these little guys out….I want to see all the traveling penguins in pictures! But I can make no fast and hard promises to turnaround time. I generally finish 5-6 penguins a week, but this can vary depending on my schedule. Also, obviously, I cannot accommodate rush orders. All orders will be filled in the order in which they are received. I send out e-mails every month or so to let everyone know where they are on the list. You can also e-mail me at any time to find out how things are going :)
The ordering process:

  1. E-mail me at StephanieDMB22@yahoo.com , please make the subject line “Roaming Penguin” so I can spot them easily!

  2. Include your full name, address, and player(s)/number(s) you want

  3. I will e-mail you back letting you know I received your order and let you know where you fall on the list. I will TRY to give you at least an estimate as to how long it will be. I will also let you know what your total will be. You may pay me at any time.....either when you order or when your penguin is finished. It's completely up to you!

  4. Your penguin will be mailed just as soon as he/they are finished and I have received payment.

  5. I ask that you e-mail me when your penguin arrives so that I know he got there ok (we haven't lost one yet!).
  6. And the most fun for me.....take your penguin places and get pictures of him doing stuff! There is no such thing as a location or a picture being too plain or boring. As I get pictures up here, you will get to see examples of what others are doing.....some people really have a lot of fun with this! Please e-mail pictures (and stories) to me so I can share them here.
Please feel free to e-mail me with ANY questions. I tried to think of everything for this post....but I'm sure I've left stuff out....
A few “fine print” notes. These are not toys. They do have a few pieces glued on and the sticks have wire in them. So please do not give them to small children or dogs. Second, if you are DEATHLY allergic to cats….well, I have one and, try as I might, there will be a few stray hairs on the penguins. If you have pets, you know the pet hair battle is never ending.....
Thanks so much for visiting!!

The Roaming Penguin Project

It all started as a fun project to kill off-season time on The Sidney Crosby Show. Jodie wanted us to send in pictures of us with our Pittsburgh Penguins stuff and to represent where we were from (since Pens fans are everywhere!). I was a fairly new fan and didn't have any Penguins gear. But I am a knitting/crocheting geek and thought "hey, I'll just make a penguin". From there I decided to take him all around Nashville and get his picture with some of the sights. Here are the results of my entry:

After I sent my picture to Jodie, I e-mailed her to get her thoughts on whether the "Friends of The Show" might be interested in having a crocheted penguin of their own. She and I worked back and forth and officially launched the Roaming Penguin ordering on August 8, 2008 (the day after Sidney Crosby's birthday :) )

As stated in the ordering information, $5 from each penguin goes to the Mario Lemieux Foundation. As of this posting, I haven't sent them a check yet (waiting to hit the $1,000 mark) and the Foundation is not aware that I'm doing this. A few of the Penguins players have gotten to "meet" some of our Roamers, which is just mind-boggling to me!

I will be keeping this blog to post pictures of the Roamers and to keep everyone updated on fun statistics and how much money has been raised! So come back often :)
